Preparing For Your Hair Appointment: What You Should Know

Visiting a hair salon is not just a routine chore that needs to be tended to – it's a chance to transform your look, pamper yourself and take care of an accessory you wear everyday! To ensure that you get the most out of your upcoming hair appointment, a little preparation can go a long way. In this guide, we'll walk you through some essential steps to help you make the most of your salon experience.

  • Book Your Appointment in Advance: Start by booking your appointment well in advance. This ensures you get a time slot that works for you and allows your stylist to adequately prepare for your visit. Our team of stylists recommend waiting no less than 2 weeks before you need a hair service to call and reserve your space. Appointments that are on nights and weekends are often the most requested, and can be more difficult to fit in last minute. Pre-booking your appointment after your initial appointment is a great way to ensure you get your stylist at a time that works for you!

  • Know What You Want: While our stylists are wonderful at making recommendations, your hair is part of your identity and we want to make sure we are accuratly reflecting that. Before you visit the salon, have a clear idea of the hairstyle you're aiming for. Browse magazines, Pinterest, or social media for inspiration. Even bringing in photos of what you don’t like will help solidify your vision to your stylist. Our team of experts are trained to customize your desired look with what would work best with your face shape, skin tone and maintenance goals.

  • Consultation is Key: At Hair Undone we require in person consultations prior to booking any color services. These consultations are a great way to establish your goals, manage pricing expecations and discuss maintance of your desired look so that you can keep your hair looking and feeling salon fresh at home. This consultation provides you the opportunity to meet your stylist to make sure you both see the same vision and to make sure your personalities align. How terrible would it be to be stuck in a salon chair for several hours with someone you are not vibing with? These consultations also make sure that our team of experts are fully prepared for your visit beforehand and there will be no surprises on the day of your appointment. It’s hard to feel like you’re pampering yourself when you’re feeling unprepared!

  • Prep Your Hair: On the day of your appointment, make sure your hair is clean and free of heavy styling products. Your stylist will appreciate having a clean canvas to work on. There is a myth that oily hair is helpful for color application, which is simply untrue. If there are excessive oils on your scalp it can actually make it more difficult to apply color. Dry, down and detangled is the best way to arrive for every appointment. If you have curly hair, this is especially important as we typically start our haircuts dry and need to see your curls in their natural style in order to execute a proper haircut.

  • Communicate Your Needs: During your appointment, effective communication is essential. Discuss your expectations, any concerns you may have, and be open to your stylist's suggestions. Clear communication ensures you both are on the same page, leading to a satisfying result. If at any point you are uncomfortable, don’t feel like your stylist is understanding your requests or you see something you’re unhappy with- tell us! It is much easier to make adjustments same day than to get you back in for a fix. Sometimes you won’t see something at your appointment, and thats ok too. We have a 7 day fix policy at our salon that means you can call back in within one week of your service and have your hair cut or color adjusted.

  • Consider Maintenance: Talk to your stylist about the level of maintenance you're comfortable with. Some haircuts and color require more styling than you may be expecting or used to. Our team of experts will let you know if your desired goals and maintenance levels are not aligning, or what to expect when caring for your new ‘do. We can also recommend adjustments to meet somewhere in the middle.

  • Relax and Enjoy: Once you're in the salon chair, take the time to relax and enjoy the experience. Salons are designed to be havens of relaxation, so embrace the opportunity to unwind and let the professionals work their magic. Remember that this is time you set aside to take care of yourself!

  • Ask About Aftercare: Our talented stylists will discuss aftercare options in your consultations but if you have any additional questions before you leave the salon, you’re welcome to inquire about what aftercare products will work best for your hair needs. Our stylists are also happy to share all of our styling knowledge with you so you can have salon hair at home.

Preparing for a hair appointment doesn't have to be a daunting task. By following these simple steps, you can ensure that your salon visit is enjoyable, productive, and results in a stunning new hairstyle that boosts your confidence and leaves you feeling fantastic. Remember, effective communication and a willingness to collaborate with your stylist will set the stage for a successful and satisfying salon experience. So, go ahead and book your next appointment! You’re worth it!
