Stylist Spotlight: Aurora Perez
We’re back again with another stylist spotlight. This time we’re talking to Aurora Perez! Aurora comes to us from New Jersey and is also a fellow graduate of Mitchell’s Academy. Read on to learn more:
What do you love about doing hair?
I’ve loved everything about the beauty industry and have always dreamed of being behind the chair, doing hair one day! However, I would say what I love the most about doing hair is the relationships that I build. Being able to make someone feel good and build their confidence fills my spirit. I love being given the chance to make someone feel beautiful on the inside, while enhancing the beauty on the outside. I also love being able to grow with my clients through trends, seasons, life changes and milestones. My FAVORITE part of every service is seeing my clients face light up when the cape comes off! I just LOVE what I do, and I feel very lucky.
What are some of your favorite services that you do?
I love blonding and vivids! They both challenge me, and keep my brain working! I love transformative color, and I just always love a challenge. It’s also such a fun way for me to use my creativity and put my artistic ability to work.
What are some services/styles you're looking forward to trying
More curly styles and textured haircuts. I would really love to do more of these and bring back some of these older hairstyles with a modern twist. I would also love to do more vivids, especially rainbows and pastels! I find that these services are truly a great way for me to have the most creative freedom!
Whats a product you tried recently that you love?
I have to say I am loving all of the Davines products lately, but a product that I’m absolutely in love with is the Davines Oi Liquid luster. My hair is curly and I have had it colored with a purple vivid for a while now. I don’t have thick hair so certain masks or shine treatments tend to weigh my hair down. But, this product has not only added a weightless shine, and a super silky feel, but it has helped lock in my color so much better than anything else. I’ve noticed it fades much slower since using this, especially directly following a vivid service. The best part is that this treatment that doesn’t have to sit on your hair for 15 minutes. It’s a quick rinse and it is a bonus that it smells so good!
What is your home routine?
I will say that my home hair routine changes a lot depending on how I plan to style it. However, My hair has also changed texture tremendously over the years and has gotten much curlier! This has required me to learn different ways of caring for it in order to keep it healthy and moisturized. I always wash with cold water to preserve color and lock in moisture. I switch between the surface awaken shampoo/ conditioner and the Davines Oi shampoo/ conditioner. If I plan to blow my hair out I ALWAYS use a heat protectant. Lately, I’ve been loving the Oi Milk and the Liquid Spell. Those two products have been all I need to have a smooth blow out. If I plan to diffuse-style my hair with my natural curls I use the Davines Oi Milk and the Davines Curls Building Serum. I just love how this product gives my curls volume and hold without drying or weighing it down.
In between washes I use the Surface Awaken Elixir for my scalp, especially during the colder season and I just started using the Davines Dry Shampoo. I have found that it is just enough for my hair and doesn’t weigh it down on the following days. For me the key is to go as long as possible in between washes. This not only maintains my color but prevents my hair from drying out too much.
What are you favorites products for your favorite styles you do?
I love the Surface Memory Foam, the Davines Liquid Spell, and the Awaken Protein Mouse. I can honestly say these are my Go Tos for volume and memory. I’m all about volume and a blow out that will last. I rotate between these on almost every client that I blow out. I have found that I love the Davines Dry wax spray as well- Especially to hold curl! I’ve seen that work wonders on my clients with straightest hair. It isn’t heavy but it is strong enough to allow the curls to last! If you haven’t tried this product, I highly recommend it! For my curly girls- I LOVE the Surface curl line. Especially the curls oil gel! This product is number one for me with curls. It not only adds enough hold, but it also add moisture to keep the curls bouncy and shiny. I’ve also used this to for my curly girls with coarse hair that like to have a smooth blow out. This product can stand alone and create a smooth, shiny and frizz free style.
Anything you want people to know about you?
Other than my passion for the beauty industry, I’d like them to know how I became interested in the first place. My earliest memories of my grandmother was not only her taking me to Italy every year, but the amount of time spent in the hair salon with her every Saturday. She would take me with her, and I would just observe the stylists and flip through the hair books. I was truly inspired by the creativity, and the comfort I found in the salon atmosphere. Ii’ve known since then that I wanted to be behind the chair someday. I honestly feel like my clients and my co- workers are extended family to me! I am very family oriented and extremely passionate about my family. I also have a teenage son and he is my best friend and my world. I enjoy being a mother and going to all his football and basketball games. I love being his number one fan! Being a mother has been so rewarding and I am so lucky to have him. He has also been such a motivator for me to continue to grow! I am so excited for what the future has to hold and all the new relationships I get to build. So far, I have enjoyed this every step of the way!
